Florida Polytech University hopes to break ground on a new engineering building in spring 2024. The 40,000-square-foot venture, named the “Gary C. Wendt Building,” will cost $15 million to complete, per the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
The two-story facility will feature development labs, faculty offices, and a conference room. It’ll also feature an open-air courtyard that connects to the nearby Barnett Applied Research Center. Florida Polytechnic University notes that the new structure is necessary to accommodate the school’s growing population.

The Gary C. Wendt Building will be the third building on the Lakeland campus. It joins the aforementioned Barnett Applied Research Center and the Innovation, Science, and Technology building.
It’s also named for University Trustee Gary C. Wendt, who contributed $2 million toward the creation of new student initiatives last year. If all goes according to plan, the project will finish construction in summer 2025.

The engineering building isn’t the only construction project that Florida Polytech University has in the works. Our sources indicate that a third on-campus residence hall is underway. It will measure five stories and offer space for 430 beds.
