Vertical construction is now underway on Melo Group’s Downtown 6th, a 58-story residential tower rising at 46 NE 6th Street and 530 and 550 NE First Avenue in Downtown Miami. Designed by Melo Architecture and G3AEC with De Los Reyes Engineering Inc as the structural engineer, the tower will top out at 574 feet above ground, or 587 feet above sea level, yielding over 1 million square feet of space including 824 residential apartments, about 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, and 640 parking spaces within a concealed garage and a pool deck on the 9th floor. The project is located just west of the College North Metromover Station and adjacent to the historic Christ Fellowship Church. Melo Contractors Corp is the general contractor with L&R Structural as the shell contractor.

Recent photos show the 0.82-acre site quickly progressing out of the foundation phase, with vertical formwork rising well above street level. The podium structure is actively taking shape, particularly at the site’s southwest corner, where new concrete slabs and perimeter walls will form adjacent to the existing podiums of Melo Group’s twin-tower Downtown 5th and the neighboring Okan Tower development. Clusters of reinforcing steel and formwork are in place for upcoming pours, while shear walls and structural columns continue to rise floor by floor. Scaffolding and temporary supports span large portions of the ground level, indicating ongoing work on the building’s concealed parking garage. Two yellow Morrow tower cranes anchor the site, surrounded by staging containers, machinery, and neatly arranged construction materials.

Melo Group is swiftly advancing this project. In late February, crews completed the tower’s foundation with a 2,400-cubic-yard concrete pour.

The project is surrounded by ongoing development, including nearby towers such as Okan Tower, 501 First, 600 Miami Worldcenter, and The Crosby. The location also offers convenient access to multiple transit options, including the Metromover, Metrorail, and Brightline station.

According to construction permits, JC & A Electrical Contractors Inc. is listed as the electrical contractor, A & P Air Conditioning Corporation handles mechanical HVAC work, and Professional Plumbing Corporation serves as the plumbing contractor.

  1. Wow, what an unispired, boring looking building. Looks like public housing for the masses. On a positive note, it is supplying 800+ needed apartments for the area and has good density. But, the exterior design already looks dated. Wonder what car traffic will look like in 3 years in downtown Miami?

The rendering for this tower doesn’t look like a fit for Miami, but time will tell.

    Great construction photography once again!

  3. I’ve seen the future of all this high density development producing near constant grid-lock traffic.
I left. Couldn’t stand it anymore.

    • Wow! Butt-ugly. And sad that it will ‘butt’ up against the fabulous Okan tower which is shaped (a bit, according to its press) like a tulip.

This monolith would be awe inspiring in pre Putin Russia.😑

  5. Agree with the last statement..Okan tower is being surrounded by buildings on every other side..Too bad it could not be out on the open fronting Biscayne Blvd..

    • the worst one is Okan Tower is really close to very noisy jail (!) and it will be built right next Downtown 5th. One side of the Okan Tower is facing directly on to jail on Downtown 5th.

  6. 🔵I’M BUILDING NEXT WEEK A 130 STORY 4500 FOOT HIGH RISE IN DOWN TOWN MIAMI CLOSE TO BRICKEL AVE.🔴

  7. a lot of high-rise buildings on the rise in such a narrow place! Useless, uncivilised and poor mentality for Miami city.

  8. I’m looking for a job in construction and carpentry.
