A one-story retail building ravaged by Hurricane Helene will be replaced with a boutique hotel in Pinellas County.
Mad Beach Inn is set to measure three stories above grade and comprise 11 guest rooms. The venture would have more than 10 on-site parking spots and a 2,500-square-foot ground-level café. From St. Pete Rising, the café serves many functions, intended to “function as the hotel lobby, allowing guests to check in, access the elevator, and move seamlessly between the café, rooftop deck, and pool area.
The retail building, which was constructed in the late 1960s, is scheduled to be demolished in the upcoming weeks. The businesses, some of which included a salon and restaurant, have since relocated.

Dave Wonsick of St. Pete Beach Investments LLC purchased the 0.22-acre property for $780,000 in September. The developer has experience building hotels on Florida’s west coast, having renovated The Lofts of St. Pete Beach. That 11-unit project sold earlier this year.
Bodziak Hayes Architects designed the Mad Beach Inn; TA Smith Homes is the general contractor. Vertical construction is anticipated to start in the upcoming months with the project itself scheduled for a mid-2027 completion.
Mad Beach Inn is slated for 15227 Gulf Boulevard, Madeira Beach, Florida, 33708, in Pinellas County.
