Construction has topped out on the new BayCare Hospital Manatee, a $563 million healthcare campus under development in Palmetto, Florida. BayCare Health System and general contractor Robins & Morton celebrated the milestone on July 10 with a topping out ceremony marking the placement of the final structural steel beam. Gresham Smith is serving as the project’s architect.
Located approximately one mile north of the Interstate 75 and Interstate 275 interchange in Manatee County, the new hospital will encompass approximately 450,000 square feet. Upon completion, the facility will contain 154 private patient beds and expand BayCare’s healthcare network in one of the fastest-growing areas of Florida’s Gulf Coast. The hospital is scheduled to open in 2028.
Work can now continue on the building’s enclosure, interior build-out, and the installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems over the coming months.
“As Manatee County’s only not-for-profit hospital reaches full height, it represents an important step toward expanding access to the high-quality, compassionate care BayCare is known for across West Central Florida,” said BayCare President and CEO Stephanie Conners. “It moves us closer to delivering essential services, specialty care and more convenient access for this area.”
“Reaching the topping out of BayCare Hospital Manatee is a proud milestone for our entire team and trade partners, and a reflection of the strong collaboration driving this project forward,” Robins & Morton Operations Manager Bryan Durkin said. “This moment represents more than structural progress; it’s a significant step toward delivering a high-quality healthcare destination that will serve the Manatee County and surrounding South Tampa Bay community for generations to come.”
The project represents one of BayCare’s largest capital investments and will provide expanded inpatient healthcare services for Manatee County and the surrounding South Tampa Bay region when completed in 2028.
