Project Kraken, a Satellite Manufacturing Facility, Arriving to Cape Canaveral, FL

Cape Canaveral, FL, is Florida’s space exploration capital. Soon, the city will be home to the Terran Orbital Satellite & Space Manufacturing Facility. The venture will cost anywhere from $250 million to $350 million to complete. Some sources refer to the endeavor as “Project Kraken.”

The manufacturing/processing plant will comprise 660,000 square feet of new construction. Right now, Project Kraken’s in its “master planning” stage, so the venture’s still in its infancy. It’s owned by Terran Orbital Corporation – U.S. Headquarters, which is based out of California.

Per the organization’s website, it prides itself on state-of-the-art technology dedicated to mapping out constellations and monitoring already-active satellites. Terran Orbital Corporation has offices across the nation, including Boca Raton, Washington, D.C., and California. The Construction Journal reports that Project Kraken is the corporation’s only active project.

Marc Bell, the co-founder and CEO of Terran Orbital, told Business Facilities that the venture will create over 2,500 jobs by 2025, with workers earning about $84,000 a year. The facility will specialize in building circuit boards, space vehicles, and other exploration devices. The facility itself will comprise three buildings, including administrative offices.
