Make-A-Wish Foundation is set to break ground on their new home in South Florida at 343 Northwest 6th Street in Miami’s Overtown district. Named the Finker-Frenkel Wish House, the 30,000-square-foot structure will rise 5 stories and approximately 85-feet tall, serving as the permanent headquarters for the non-profit organization. Miami-based world-renowned Arquitectonica is behind the design of the leaning glass structure pictured in the renderings, which is planned to yield 15,000 square feet of event and office space.

The development site is located just west of the south-bound I-95 elevated highway, bordering the Downtown area and bound by Northwest 6th Court to the east; Northwest 7th Street to the north; Northwest 4th Avenue to the west and Northwest 6th on the south. The MiamiCentral transit hub is the nearest form of major transportation as it is a few blocks east, and the Lummus Park Historic District is several blocks south.

“It is truly a pleasure to work alongside such a prestigious organization to create the immersive experience of the Wish House,” Amicon CEO Adam Mopsick said in the statement. “The innovative design of the new Wish House is certainly pushing the boundaries on traditional structure, and is set to be a beacon of light and inspiration in South Florida.”

According to the Department of Buildings, the cost of construction is projected to total $7,000,000, but the organization’s representative for South Florida Amicon Management stated they are close to fundraising $30 million for the new building and wish endowment. The new construction permit is still pending approval.

Suffolk Construction is listed as the general contractor for the project.

Ground breaking is scheduled for today October 6, 2021, and is expected to reach completion early 2023.

  1. Should a charitable organization spend so lavishly on a fancy new Arquitectonica-designed headquarters? I wonder what this will do to their governance rating. The lack of self-awareness here is stunning.

  2. Please read this quote Steve and decide for yourself.

“The building itself will rise 5 stories, and include a fun area for children featuring “emerging technology.” There will also be 15,000 square feet of event and office space.

The organization is said to be very close to reaching a $30 million fundraising campaign goal for the new building and a wish endowment.” – TNM

    • I still think this is very self-indulgent and they could have found a cheaper way to accomplish this utilizing an existing and far less expensive facility.
