The Hollywood Bread Building, which ceased operations in the 1990s, will soon be replaced by a mixed-use development. Locally known as “the Bread Building,” the tower once marketed bread that claimed to be less fattening than most mainstream brands. Major movie stars, including Grace Kelly, Judy Garland, and Joan Crawford, were part of the bread’s ad campaign. Yet, the company slowed down after the death of its founder in the 1970s.
The South Florida Business Journal reported that demolition started on the once-iconic building in August 2021. The new 25-story tower will comprise over 360 residential units with 16,000 square feet of commercial space. In total, the building will comprise over 600,000 square feet of new construction, featuring a swimming pool and community fitness center. The Miami Herald notes that the project will open in 2023.
The community is owned by BTI Partners, which purchased the lot for $11 million earlier this year. The organization has another active venture in Hollywood’s Young Circle, which will provide over 800 residential units.
Conceptual renderings by Adache Group Architects and Modis Architects LLC show a sleek, high-rise building with outdoor balconies. The Construction Journal estimates that the building will cost about $100 million to construct.
The new complex is slated for 1727-1745 Van Buren Street, 1700-1716 Harrison Street, and 1740-1760 South Young Circle, Hollywood, FL, 33020, in Broward County.
