UF Health Jacksonville broke ground on a six-story tower featuring 124 rooms earlier this spring. The $150-million-plus expansion will serve as the third phase of UF Health North, which serves Jacksonville, Florida, and the surrounding area. It will rest on 25.14 acres. Completion’s expected in April 2024.
Per the Jacksonville Daily Record, the tower will require approximately 225,200 square feet of new construction, with Batson-Cook Construction operating as the general contractor. Floors two through three will provide provide acute physical therapy. Floors four to five will serve acute care patients, and the top floor will be used for miscellaneous healthcare services. The main floor will likely serve as the hospital’s lobby.
Wayne Marshall, the vice president of UF Health North, told the Florida Times-Union that the expansion was necessary to accommodate the area’s growing medical needs. He noted that UF Health North’s emergency room alone had served 40,000 people, and countless others seek elective surgeries each year.
The six-story tower will join two already-existing facilities. The first hosts an emergency room, outpatient surgical center, and diagnostic center, along with four floors of doctors’ offices. It opened in 2015. The second building is a five-story 92-bed inpatient tower that opened in 2017.
On the newest expansion, Gresham Smith is the architect, GAI Consultants Inc. is the civil engineer, and UF Health Jacksonville and Shands Teaching Hospital are the co-owners.
UF Health North’s new building will be located at 15255 Max Leggett Parkway, Jacksonville, Florida, 32218, in Duval County.
