New Research Facility Slated for 2024 at South Alcaniz Street, Pensacola, Florida, 32502

Soon, an empty parking lot in Pensacola, Florida, will make way for the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition’s (IHMC) latest expansion. The three-story, 46,000-square-foot facility will operate as a research hub. It’s called the IHMC Healthspan, Resilience, and Performance Research Complex. The project’s estimated to cost at least $20 million to complete.

It will focus on measuring the impact of oxytocin in high-stress situations and see if providing additional oxytocin would enhance military performance, according to the Pensacola News Journal. The building will include administrative support offices, outreach training facilities, and cutting-edge laboratories.

The facility’s scheduled to start construction in 2022 and end in 2024.

The building will ideally start construction in Summer 2022. If all goes according to plan, staff members could start occupying the building by early 2024. The IHMC, the project’s owner, hopes that the facility will draw more talent to the area. It wants to cut down on outsourcing projects and instead focus on ventures in its own facility.

IHMC noted that it selected DAG Architects as the facility’s architect. It chose the Florida-based firm because not only has it worked with the IHMC in the past, but it has extensive experience in similar projects.

Construction will start in Summer 2022.

The IHMC Healthspan, Resilience, and Performance Research Complex’s address is South Alcaniz Street, Pensacola, Florida, 32502, in Escambia County.
