In a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday, the transformation of Ybor City took its first step as construction commenced on Canvas GWX, a community of townhomes with an “industrial chic” aesthetic. This residential project, located at 1218 East Kay Street – just outside the 50-acre GasWorx district, is poised to kickstart a wave of redevelopment in the heart of Tampa.

Tampa’s visionary Mayor, Jane Castor, joined in the groundbreaking festivities, underscoring the pivotal role of GasWorx in revitalizing Ybor City. This groundbreaking event arrived only six months after construction commenced in the GasWorx district.

Canvas GWX is set to redefine urban living with its townhouse units, spanning 2,100 to 2,400 square feet. These modern abodes boast rooftop terraces and community green spaces, all wrapped in an industrial, architectural style reminiscent of Ybor City’s converted warehouses, artist studios, lofts, and maker spaces. Additionally, a historic commercial building on Nebraska Ave. is undergoing restoration, promising exciting commercial prospects.
