The Residences at 400 Central in St. Petersburg has officially topped out at 46 stories, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the 515-foot-tall tower, which is now the tallest residential building on Florida’s Gulf Coast and the tallest structure in St. Petersburg. Once completed, the mixed-use building will feature 301 luxury condominiums, ground-floor retail spaces, and commercial offices, with occupancy expected by mid-2025.
The Catsimatidis family, owners of Red Apple Real Estate, hosted a topping-out ceremony to recognize the contributions of more than 700 workers, including concrete subcontractors, masons, steelworkers, electricians, and carpenters. John Catsimatidis Sr., founder of Red Apple Real Estate, expressed his pride in the team’s achievements: “I am tremendously proud of the team that has come together to create this iconic building. It is great to see the building secure its place in St. Petersburg’s skyline and to see buyers choosing 400 Central as their future home.”
Jim Scarpace, General Manager of Suffolk Construction, praised the company’s innovative approach to the project: “Our team took tremendous pride in managing the construction of The Residences at 400 Central, a stunning building that has literally reshaped the skyline of beautiful St. Petersburg. It was truly an honor to partner with the Catsimatidis family and Red Apple Real Estate on this important project, and it was a unique opportunity to demonstrate how our innovative approach to project management, state-of-the-art technologies, and leveraging of jobsite data have revolutionized the construction process.”
Spanning an entire city block along Central Avenue, The Residences at 400 Central, designed by Arquitectonica, will include a rooftop Sky Observatory, offering residents panoramic views of downtown St. Petersburg and the surrounding area. The development also includes 60,000 square feet of retail space and 45,000 square feet of Class A office space, making it a premier destination for businesses and retail along Central Avenue.
Michael Saunders, founder and president of Michael Saunders & Co., which is leading the sales of the residences, commented on the project’s success: “The tremendous success of The Residences at 400 Central proves the vision the Catsimatidis Family has for what is possible in luxury development in St. Petersburg is absolutely correct. We are so excited for the buyers to experience luxury living in the sky.”
The Catsimatidis family, who have deep ties to St. Petersburg, has long supported local cultural initiatives. Their investment in The Residences at 400 Central is seen as a reflection of their commitment to the city’s growth and future.

The parking podium is a real eyesore on 3 sides of the building. It’s taller than the surrounding buildings on 2 sides. For the tallest building on the West coast it’s a real bore and a missed opportunity.
