Plans have been submitted to the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Development Review Committee for a new, expanded home for the Las Olas Chabad Jewish Center. Located along East Las Olas Boulevard in Broward County, the proposed three-story, 70-foot-tall building will replace the Chabad’s current facility at 1302 East Las Olas Boulevard, relocating approximately 200 feet east to the southwest corner of SE 15th Avenue and East Las Olas Boulevard. The project is led by Las Olas Chabad, with design by Steven L. Cohen and Associates, civil engineering by Scheffer Mote & Ricks, and landscape architecture by EcoPlan.

The new facility will span 24,920 square feet, a significant increase from the existing 6,132-square-foot building, and will accommodate the Chabad’s expanding religious, educational, and community programs. The design provides a modern, purpose-built structure organized to support the center’s multifaceted mission while maintaining its presence along one of Fort Lauderdale’s most prominent corridors.

The first floor will feature educational spaces dedicated to The Friendship Circle, a program serving children with special needs, alongside a lobby, entrance hall, secure vestibule, and a Mikvah facility. The second floor will include a 1,976-square-foot community room, a 1,499-square-foot multipurpose room for educational use, a kitchen, a children’s room, offices, and storage areas. The third floor will house administrative and classroom spaces, including three offices, five classrooms, and a conference room, complemented by an exterior deck.

An open-air rooftop deck will serve as a flexible space for special events and gatherings, though it will not be used concurrently with the building’s interior spaces.

The proposal is scheduled for review by Fort Lauderdale’s Development Review Committee on November 12.

  1. Where is the sidewalk landscaping and shade trees required everywhere else in Fort Lauderdale?

  2. Very Blingy. Looks like a Jewish casino. But, it’s a nicer building than what’s currently there and will fill in the streetscape. Hope they add better landscaping and increase the pedestrian experience.

  3. Nothing attractive about it. A disaster from each and every angle. Missed opportunity to celebrate light, learning, meaningful triump and endurance. What a shame.

  4. Given the reality of the current state of affairs in America, is this such a good idea?

  5. Blessings. Great job

  6. I’m not sure it’s the best time to discuss such a thing, when Israel commuting genocide in Gaza on live TV. Show some humanity and empathy at lest.

  7. Height seems okay. Landscaping I assume . And a restaurant please! Yummy.

  8. I am overjoyed that a stunning new Chabad House is coming to our community! This beautiful building, truly one of the most breathtaking Chabad Houses in the world, will feature an inclusive synagogue, a kosher restaurant, and dedicated support for individuals with special needs. It will serve all ages and backgrounds, enriching and uplifting our entire community.
