A historically significant church in St. Petersburg is set to be transformed into a workforce housing development.
The former Pinellas Vietnamese Church of the Nazarene, which operated for more than 70 years, will be redeveloped into 20 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, measuring about 400 to 1,000 square feet each.

Most of the apartments would be reserved for tenants earning up to 80 percent of the area median income; according to St. Petersburg records, that would be capped at $83,450 annually for a four-person household. Communal amenities will include a fenced-in dog park, bicycle storage stations, and library. Residents would also have access to 40 surface parking spots, exactly two per unit.
Joshua and Danielle Neitz, two local developers, purchased the church and its parking lot for $1.325 million earlier this year. They refer to the 1950s-era church as a “fortress” and have partnered with Fraze Design to preserve the building’s structural elements, including its 25-foot-high ceilings.
St. Pete Rising notes that there will also be various exterior refreshments, such as new windows and roof work, to further reinforce the building. The church-turned-apartment complex is set for 1225 9th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, Florida, 33705, in Pinellas County.
