Santander has broken ground on 1401 Brickell by Santander, a 50-story mixed-use tower in Miami’s Financial District. The development will span approximately 1.6 million square feet and is designed by Handel Architects in collaboration with Bernardi & Peschard Arquitectura, with delivery targeted for 2029.

The building will house office space for Santander’s Miami operations, including Santander Private Banking, alongside space for third-party tenants. The program includes retail, dining, and wellness components across seven levels of amenities, as well as a sky terrace restaurant overlooking Brickell Avenue. Santander says the project will incorporate advanced energy efficiency, connectivity, and security technologies.

Ana Botín, Executive Chair of Banco Santander, said the groundbreaking reflects the bank’s continued expansion in the United States.
“Miami has long been central to our U.S. story. We opened our first private banking office here in 1979, and our growth in Miami continues to this day, with the opening of the Santander Work Café and new Openbank location in recent years. The U.S. is a highly strategic market for Santander where we continue to invest. Our recently announced agreement to acquire Webster Bank, and now the groundbreaking of 1401 Brickell, underscore our commitment to the U.S. and confidence in our franchise here.”
Santander Private Banking currently operates a hub in Miami, where it has been providing services for global private banking clients for more than 40 years. In recent years, the bank has expanded its footprint across South Florida. In 2025, Santander Bank unveiled its first Openbank physical location in the United States at Miami Worldcenter. A year earlier, it launched its second U.S.-based Santander Work Café in Coconut Grove and opened 34 ATM locations across the region.

Christiana Riley, CEO and President of Santander US, said the development will support the bank’s continued growth in Miami.
“At Santander, everything we do starts with our customers, and our growth in Miami reflects how we are evolving to meet their needs with more flexible, accessible banking experiences. Miami plays a unique role as a gateway to the Americas, and this development will enable us to better serve our clients, support our teams, and deepen our connections across communities worldwide.”

“We are combining digital innovation with physical spaces that foster connection and community,” said Riley. “We’re proud of the impact we’re making across South Florida and excited to continue expanding our reach to serve more customers and businesses across the region.”
The groundbreaking was held on April 8, 2026.

Great looking building. One of the more colorful and interesting towers to go up in Miami.
I like it too.
