Four-Building $2 Billion Student Housing Venture Planned for University of Florida Campus

A student housing project for the University of Florida is in the works to meet the growing demand for on-campus living.

Construction has started on four residential buildings slated to replace the now-demolished Simpson, Trusler, and Graham residence halls. Those buildings were constructed more than 60 years ago and torn down in June 2025. Together, they offered a combined 622 student beds.

The four new buildings will feature a total of 2,217 beds; two buildings will open in time for the fall 2028 semester, while the other two are scheduled for completion later that same year. The community will feature more than 500,000 square feet of new construction, with residents having access to a suite of amenities, including but not limited to communal kitchens, gathering space, and laundry rooms. Additional features include an expansive disability resource center and Amazon Market.

The four-building venture is part of a larger, transformative initiative that’s intended to last 10 years. At the decade’s end, the University of Florida will have added 10,000 beds across its 2,000-acre campus. The endeavor is estimated to cost more than $2 billion to complete.

Balfour Beatty’s Campus Solutions and U.S. Buildings are working together to develop the project. Our sources do not name an exact address for the buildings; yet, Simpson residence hall was formerly located at 2089 Museum Rd, Gainesville, FL, 32608, in Alachua County.
