The nation’s tallest mural has been completed on Excel Miami, a 24-story residential tower at 1550 NE Miami Place in Miami’s Arts & Entertainment District. Developed by Clearline Real Estate and built by Shawmut Design and Construction, the 427-unit rental project now features a four-panel installation by internationally known German artist MadC, the artistic name of Claudia Walde, with the largest portion rising 245 feet along the south elevation.

This artwork extends to the top of the building and occupies four mural areas across the tower, with the south-facing wall serving as the primary canvas. The installation was completed ahead of the building’s first resident move-ins, which are expected to begin in September.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava attended the mural unveiling, joining representatives from Clearline Real Estate, Shawmut Design and Construction, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and MadC to mark the completion of the installation.

“The most memorable buildings tell a story. With Excel Miami, we wanted to create a place where architecture, public art, and everyday life intersect. MadC’s mural has transformed the building into a landmark visible across the city, and we’re proud to contribute a work of this scale and ambition to Miami’s public realm,” said Jenny Bernell, Founder and CEO of Clearline Real Estate. “As we prepare to welcome our first residents in September, we’re excited to offer a community for people who value creativity, design, and a connection to the culture that makes Miami unique.”

For Shawmut, the installation represented a coordination milestone tied to the final stages of construction. The project team prepared the building envelope and exterior surfaces while maintaining the project schedule, allowing the artist and her team to complete the large-scale mural work safely.

“At Shawmut, we are focused on more than the physical structure. We are focused on how a building comes together, how it interacts with its surroundings, and how it ultimately contributes to the community,” said Alexis Leal, Head of Florida for Shawmut Design and Construction. “This installation is a powerful example of how construction, design, and public art can intersect to create something memorable for Miami.”

Located around the corner from the Metromover’s School Board station, Excel Miami will deliver 427 rental residences, street-level retail, and amenity spaces within a transit-accessible section of downtown Miami. The project previously topped off in 2025 and has continued advancing toward completion with final exterior and interior work underway.

MadC’s work is rooted in graffiti writing and large-scale urban contemporary art. Her practice is known for vivid color, layered compositions, calligraphic forms, and large murals across public spaces, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions internationally.

The mural was unveiled with project representatives including Santiago Ramos, Senior Construction Manager at Clearline Real Estate; Joe Pitsor, Development and Acquisitions Manager at Clearline Real Estate; Julio Cruz, Project Executive at Shawmut Design and Construction; Mayor Daniella Levine Cava; MadC; and Ashlee Thomas, Interim Director of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.
