Miami-Dade County, in partnership with two developers, has plans to redevelop an aging multi-family housing project. As it stands, Gwen Cherry 7 comprises 24 public housing units in multiple two-story buildings.

The new development, dubbed Gwen Cherry Residences, would feature 154 units in two, high-rise buildings; one would measure 11 stories and host 54 residences, while the other would rise 10 stories and feature 100 residences. Floorplans would span studio to five-bedroom apartments. The 11-story and 10-story building would be connected by a low-rise podium.

Future residents would have access to an amenity deck, along with 233 parking spots – 214 in a covered parking garage and the remaining 19 at surface level. Gwen Cherry Residences would also have 7,700 square feet of ground-floor retail.

The project would replace a housing development built in the 1970s (pictured). Image from Google Earth

Miami-Dade County is working with Redwood Development Co. and Magasi on the project. The County solicited for development partners in 2023; Redwood and Magasi applied together.

From Floridian Development, renderings of Gwen Cherry Residences show a “contemporary design featuring brown, gray, and white exterior finishes, expansive glazing, generous landscaping, and a mix of facade textures intended to add depth and visual variation.”

Gwen Cherry Residences is slated for the 1.6-acre site located at 170 NE 67th Street, Miami, Florida, 33138, in Miami-Dade County.
