A South Florida-based nonprofit organization hopes to get approval for a redevelopment project that would yield housing for veterans.

Plans center around transforming a 1980s-era La Quinta Inn & Suites in Coral Springs into a 100-unit community. The hotel currently hosts 122 units, but there would be a slight reduction. It stands five stories above grade and spans 81,463 square feet.

The 100 units would be studios and one-bedroom apartments, measuring about 430 and 800 square feet, respectively. Each unit would host a kitchenette, and residents would have access to various on-site social services, including financial literacy courses, job application help, and credit counseling.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation is the developer. The Coral Springs Planning and Zoning Board will consider the firm’s request for special exemptions and waivers on November 9th. Georgia-based Thomas & Hutton is working on the project’s site plan; Leo A Daly in West Palm Beach is the architect.

The redevelopment project is estimated to cost $20 million to complete.

The La Quinta Inn & Suites in question is located at 3701 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, Florida, 33065, in Broward County.
