Valhalla Island Resort will start construction in April 2022, records show. The 26-acre mixed-use venture in Marathon, Florida, will comprise a three-story 29-room resort and 50 residential units. It’s owned by Johnny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops. Morris has a personal connection to the area, having spent lots of time there in his youth.
The Florida Keys & Key West notes that Valhalla Island Resort’s homes will comprise studios to four-bedroom units, measuring about 370 square feet to 3,700 square feet each. Some homes come with outdoor showers and patios. The homes are intentionally scattered throughout the premises, so they’re not stacked on top of each other. Some of the residential units are set aside as workforce housing.
Amenities include a 12,000-square-foot spa with retail stores, including a hair salon, steam room, jacuzzi, and locker rooms. Plans also call for a 3,400-square-foot fitness center. Valhalla Island Resort will also feature golf carts that will shuttle guests around the property.
Hart Howerton Architects is the project’s architect. On its website, the firm noted that the city of Marathon approved the project in June 2021. Other involved entities on the project include Gulf Building LLC, the sitework contractor.

I lived there as a child,went thru Hurricane Inez! Stood in the eye with my Dad & siblings. Lower floor of house totally flooded & windows blew out. After that we had to leave Paradise💔We fished every day 🐠 🐟 backyard was the canal leading out to ocean which my Dad pointed out & said Cuba is over there!! Across the water. It was pure bliss for us living there enjoying 🦀,fishing, 🦞 snorkeling etc. Will return one day to stay & revisit my childhood🦀🦞🐟🌊🌴🐬
