The City of Clearwater is getting a new city hall, a $44.8 million endeavor that will comprise a new 41,679-square-foot building and a renovation of the nearby Municipal Services Building (MSB). The St. Pete Catalyst reports that developers had three options to choose from, and this was the mid-range price option, with the most expensive route costing over $76 million.
Per the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the new city hall will offer green space that connects to the nearby Pinellas Trail, along with on-site parking. The low-rise venture will offer a lobby, human resources department, city officials’ offices, and rooftop event space. City officials have been pondering a new city hall since 2019, as many employees currently work out of the sixth story of One Clearwater Tower.
Four-and-a-half years ago, the old city hall was condemned after asbestos was discovered in the structure. The old building’s slated for demolition. Construction has not yet started on the new city hall and MSB, although Wannemacher Jensen Architects is ironing out the final design details.
The city hall will be named for William B. Horne, a longtime city manager. The ventures will be located on Myrtle Avenue and Pierce Street, Clearwater, Florida, 33756, in Pinellas County.
