Historic ‘Gulfstream Hotel’ Set for Expansion and Renovation at 1 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth Beach, FL

The Gulfstream Hotel’s renovation and expansion are just one step closer to reality, with construction having already started on the first phase. Our sources indicate that the historic hotel, erected in 1925, was mostly “gutted” for the past few years.

Yet, the renovation hopes to transform the multi-level building into a “hipstoric” destination. Developers hope to maintain the historic elements of the building, while bringing it into the modern age. This involves consolidating the smaller 144 rooms into 90 units, along with restoring the façade. The hotel would open for business within 16 months of the renovation’s start.

The renovation would include consolidating smaller 144 rooms into 90 larger ones.

Renovating the Gulfstream Hotel is just one piece of the larger puzzle. The expansion includes building an eight-story structure and a three-story, 271-spot parking garage. Offering 85 apartments and 50 hotel keys, the 164,985-square-foot building would also offer a host of amenities, including a swimming pool, fitness center, spa, meeting room, and rooftop restaurant/bar. The 50 hotel rooms would be under Marriott’s “Tribune Portfolio” banner.

According to the City of Lake Worth, this project received its first approvals from the City’s Historic Resources Preservation Board in April 2022. It notes that construction will start on the expansion after the Gulfstream Hotel has finished renovations.

The Gulfstream Hotel was previously “gutted” for years.

The hotel is located at 1 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth Beach, FL, 33460, in Palm Beach County.

  1. I’ll believe it when I see it. Time and time again, I’ve seen restoration proposals never come to fruition, while one of the city’s greatest assets continues to fall apart.

    • Many feel this way – but luckily, restoration is already underway. Exciting to know the Gulfstream is finally in great hands.

  2. Are the apartments rentals or For Sale?
