The BayCare Health System will soon have a new location in Plant City, FL. The not-for-profit organization plans on building a 150-room hospital in Hillsborough County.
The facility will comprise 85,000 square feet of new construction and allow for expansion in the future. Per the Construction Journal, the venture is presently in its conceptual design phase. Work on the project will start in summer 2021 and finish in 2022.
The new hospital will replace the already-existing South Florida Baptist Hospital
Per BayCare’s website, the project intends on replacing the already-existing South Florida Baptist Hospital, which was founded in 1953. Karen Kerr, the hospital’s president, noted that the hospital has undergone 12 renovations. It has run out of space for more additions, prompting the new development.
The new hospital will employ more than 1,000 employees, with 250 of those employees being doctors. The venture’s primary goal is to expand BayCare’s network and serve Plant City’s growing population, which gained more than 5,000 people between 2010 and 2019, per the U.S. Census.

The BayCare Healthcare System right now has seven active projects, costing a total of $440 million. These ventures are mostly in the private medical sector, although the organization also oversees commercial and heavy highway projects.
When the new hospital comes to fruition, it’ll be located at East Sam Allen Road and North Park Road, Plant City, FL, 33565.
