St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, Undergoes $150 Million Expansion

As it stands right now, St. Anthony’s Hospital is a 90-year-old healthcare facility that specializes in behavioral health, oncology, cardiology, and a host of other fields. Yet, a $150 million project seeks to expand the hospital’s capacity and better serve the bigger St. Petersburg, FL, community.

The expansion began back in November 2019. Robins & Morton Group is the project’s general contractor with 15 active ventures. Construction will conclude sometime in April 2022.

The expansion will add 90 beds to the hospital’s capacity

The Tampa Bay Times reports that the expansion includes a tower that measures four stories above grade. The facility will add 90 additional hospital beds, bringing the total bed count up to 448.

It will include educational spaces, pre-admission testing for surgery patients, an electrical plant, and a loading dock. Patients can also receive dialysis at the hospital’s specialized kidney care unit. The tower itself requires 143,000 square feet of new construction. Developers are also moving the hospital’s cafeteria and kitchen to the ground floor. The idea is to make this space more easily accessible to patients, employees, and visitors.

St. Anthony’s Hospital Inc. owns the project, and this is its only project right now. It partnered with architect Gresham Smith on the project’s design. The Tampa-based firm is also working on a healthcare expansion for the University of South Florida’s Taneja College of Pharmacy.

St. Anthony Hospital’s renovations are taking place at 1200 7th Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL, 33705 in Pinellas County.
