An application has been submitted to Miami-Dade County’s Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources seeking approvals for the construction of a rock climbing facility titled Velocity Rock Gym. Addressed as 2280 Northwest 41st Street, the single-story building will yield a total of 15,677 gross square feet, rising to the maximum height of 64-feet. The site is located in the Brownsville Neighborhood of Miami, bounded by NW 23rd Street to the west, NW 22nd Ct. to the east and Florida SR 112 to the south. The Earlington Heights Metrorail station is within close proximity to the property; 2280 NW 41 St. LLC is the owner of the applications.

The structure is designed by Mateu Architecture of Miami, which features an array of 5 colors: vertical metal stripe panels of yellow, green, black, brown and white. Visitors are welcomed in through a smaller structure connected to facility, featuring a concrete canopied entrance clad in impact resistant glass. Although the building only has one floor, there is an elevated mezzanine level for access to additional activities. The smaller square-like structure will be clad in a dark-grey stucco finish.
The property is currently vacant and will not require demolition permits.
The requested pre-application meeting date is on June 3, 2021.
