Disney World has a lot of plans in the works for Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary. However, Disney fans will have to wait a bit longer for Mickey’s newest attraction: Tron Lightcycle/Run.
Per the Construction Journal, construction began on the venture in September 2019, just months from the Covid-19 pandemic. The project was intended to open in the fourth quarter of 2021, but due to delays, this is not feasible.
Tron Lightcycle/Run towers over Disney’s Tomorrowland skyline. If the two-minute ride is anything like its counterpart in Shanghai, the roller coaster itself will measure 78 feet above ground. The track is half a mile long and can accommodate around 1,600 people an hour. The design specs could be different for the American version, but otherwise, should be identical to the ride in Shanghai.
Walt Disney Imagineering is the project’s owner. Per Walt Disney Imagineering’s website, Walt Disney Imagineering is “the creative engine” that oversees all of Disney’s theme parks, merchandise, and games. The organization has partnered with other companies on the project, including Professional Services Industries, Inc., which is located in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
The high-intensity roller coaster is located adjacent to the already-existing Space Mountain in Lake Buena Vista, FL, 32830. It will be located in Orange County.
