On July 15, 2021, Boca Raton‘s Planning and Zoning Board voted in favor of the proposed design for Brightline’s Boca Raton Station expansion at 101 Northwest 4th Street near Pearl City. Brightline, who’s been consistently working to expand their high speed rail networks connecting South Florida, has unveiled the latest renderings for the 9,035-square-foot train station and 171,050-square-foot parking structure of 4.5 stories. The project also encompasses the addresses of 151 Northwest 4th Street and 400 Northwest 2nd Street, and features designs from Boca Raton-based RLC Architects.
Preliminary work is underway at the site, where a temporary parking lot is being constructed to prep for the construction of the station and parking structure. The new renderings revealed many specific details of both structures, which are designed in similar fashions. Exterior finishes will come in yellow, grey, pure white and brown stucco to compliment the neighboring Library. The train station will rise 24-feet and will feature a series of white angled concrete columns embracing a tall glass window system. The parking structure, which will accomodate 455 vehicles, will rise 45-feet and feature a grid of yellow frames across all elevations, sealed in with aluminum and white mesh. The two structures are separated by a new traffic circle allowing for easier flow of traffic.
“Brightline is a high-speed passenger rail system that’s reimagining train travel in America. Launched in 2018, we’re taking cars off the road while offering millions of riders an eco-friendly way to travel between the nation’s top transport hubs.”
Bidding for the construction of the parking garage began earlier this month, and the release of the bidding for the train station should follow up soon enough. Approximately $16.5 million in funding will be awarded to the project from the Federal Railroad Administration. On July 7, 2021 a pre-award approval was issued to Brightline for the purchase of construction materials for the project. The total projected cost for the development is expected to reach $46 million.
A final vote by Boca Raton’s City Council will occur on August 24, 2021.
