The 2016 Orlando Pulse Shooting transformed not only the Central Florida area but the LGBT+ community as a whole. To honor those who lost their lives, onePulse Foundation, Inc. is building a museum located on 1.75 acres of land.
The project was pending verification in September 2019, and now, nearly three years later, is another step closer to completion. However, because of funding and other delays, there’s no telling when that will be. Community members are hoping that since President Joe Biden made Pulse nightclub a national memorial, this will push the project forward.
onePulse Foundation, Inc. purchased the site’s land for $3.5 million in 2019. The project’s website notes that the intention of the site is to “educate and encourage thoughtful discussion and inspire positive change in honor and remembrance of all those impacted.” The site will touch on various parts of LGBT+ history both in the area and around the country.
As the project seeks funding, HHCP Architects Inc./Helman Hurley Charvat Peacock Architects is designing the building’s interior and exterior. The Orlando-area organization have six other active projects, mostly in the design phase. As the project unfolds, visitors can pay their respects at the Pulse Interim Memorial, which is in Orange County.
The onePulse Foundation Museum will be located at 438 Kaley Street, Orlando, FL, 32806.
