A new residential housing complex is coming soon to Sarasota County. Named “Palm Port Apartments,” the 126-unit development will feature both affordable housing units and units at market rate. Construction began on the multi-million-dollar project in the third quarter of 2020 and will conclude in December 2021.

The project’s conceptual renderings show six low-rise buildings measuring anywhere from two to three stories above grade. Residents can choose from four one-bedroom units, 72 two-bedroom units, and 50 three-bedroom units. The development itself rests on 8.44 acres of land.
Per the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the complex is the first affordable housing endeavor in the area since 2005. Scott Seckinger, a representative of Southport Financial Services, Inc. (the project’s owner), anticipates that the development will maintain its affordable housing status for at least 15 years. After that, it could be subject to at-market rates.
A second 132-unit complex could accompany Palm Port Apartments in the future, pending funds
The project’s goal is to address the high cost of living in Sarasota County. According to Data USA, North Port’s median income is about $62,000 a year. Anyone who falls outside of these parameters could have a hard time securing housing in the area. ABC 7 reports that 90 percent of Palm Ports Apartments’ affordable housing units are geared toward those making less than $20,000 a year.

I live close by these apartments and they are still under construction with nobody available for applications etc. Until they are close to closing of units. Like like maybe 4-6 months or before done are done. Then they will bring employees in to go over application process with whoever is interested. Sorry nobody resins to these. I thought I’d let you know what I was told when I went there for my father in law.

I m a Single mother, I have been homeless and living from place to place for the last two years looking for affordable housing. I was given section 8 but due to the lack of availability and housing my voucher ran out. Now they put me in a program with a Jewish family services and with no luck still unable to find housing due to income based because I don’t make the income that qualifies for a home or an apartment I’m unable to find accommodations. Their funding runs out at the end of May so April 1 I will be reapplying and put on a waiting list again for section 8 and HUD program I hope that you could contact me with information on these apartments when they’re available for rental I would just like the house or at home rather than sleeping on someone’s couch or in my van or bouncing from place to place thank you.
