Grove Central is more than a mixed-use residential/commercial complex; it’s a transit-oriented development that will run on solar power. Juneau Construction Company began construction on the endeavor in February 2021. The Construction Journal reports that, ideally, construction will end in early 2023.
The Next Miami reports that Grove Central’s initial plans called for 288 housing units and 135,000 square feet of retail space. Now, both those numbers have increased. The community will feature over 400 multifamily workforce housing units and about 175,000 square feet of retail. Target and Total Wine & More have signed on to have locations in the complex, with the Target nearing 50,000 square feet.
On-site amenities include a fitness center, coffee shop, lounge, co-working spaces, and musical event space. There’s also a rooftop lounge, where residents and guests can socialize on top of the 23-story building.
The environmental aspect is nothing short of impressive. The complex has a rooftop solar trellis that converts sunlight into electricity, stored in underground batteries the size of shipping containers. These power sources not only power the building but also the nearby Metrorail station. Plans are also underway to use rainwater as irrigation and turn compost into power.
Grove Central’s address is 2780 Southwest 27th Avenue, Coconut Grove, FL, in Miami-Dade County.
