Nova Southeastern University is a private university headquartered in Davie, Florida. Now, the university’s getting a new addition: “the Academical Village.” The development requires more than 2.5 million square feet of new construction, and sources report that the general contractor broke ground just recently.
The Brandon Company (one of the venture’s developers) reports that plans call for a 28,000-square-foot bookstore, 400,000 square feet of retail space, and more than 1.1 million square feet of classrooms, office space, research labs, and other academic-related endeavors. Yet, the Academical Village is more than a hub for education and development; it’ll also offer more than 800 apartments and hotel rooms.
The venture will reach completion in two phases. Most of the apartments will come in the first phase, and the hotel rooms will come in the second. In total, the venture could cost around $500 million to complete. Nova Southeastern University is the project’s owner. Mill Creek Residential––DC is the other developer alongside the Brandon Company.
EDSA––Orlando is the master planner. The South Florida Business Journal reports that the Academical Village has been in the works for about 20 years. Without any delays in construction, the venture’s first phase could open sometime next year. Nova Southeastern University’s Academical Village is located on the former site of an old shopping center near 3400 South University Drive, Davie, Florida, 33328, in Broward County.
