Pickleball isn’t the only popular sport emerging in South Florida. Icon Padel Aventura could soon bring additional padel courts to the region.
Proposed by local developer Paddle Park Aventura LLC, the complex would comprise seven courts and a 1,325-square-foot clubhouse. The clubhouse would offer a pro shop, juice bar, warmup area, showers, and lounge. Icon Padel Aventura would rest on top of a parking garage used by the employees of the adjacent office building.
Idea Architects designed the venture. Conceptual renderings show netting around the perimeter, aimed to prevent balls from flying off. There are also features in play to “make [the court] feel like it’s not on a roof.”
Virgilio Namnum, owner of Paddle Park Aventura LLC, cites demand for padel in the region behind the proposal. The game, which originated in 1960s Mexico, is one of few racket-based sports that is unavailable for play at local parks, unlike racketball and tennis.
In a recent report by the South Florida Business Journal, Namnum said that “it was impossible” to book a padel court in South Florida. The development could satisfy high demand for the sport among local communities.
Padel Park Aventura LLC currently has the proposed build site under contract from Cardon Capital. Icon Padel Aventura would be located at 18851 N.E. 29th Ave., Aventura, FL, 33180, in Miami-Dade County.
