Ground has officially broken on New Trail Plaza, an affordable housing development in Sarasota, FL. The project, led by Blue Sky Communities and Community Assisted and Supported Living Inc., will yield 96 units.
According to the Herald-Tribune, layout plans will comprise one-bedroom to three-bedroom apartments, aimed at households earning 30 percent, 60 percent, and 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). That’s a range of $21,000 to $72,000 a year. Families have priority when applying for residency.
Business Observer notes that New Trail Plaza itself will be two buildings: a four-story building with 90 apartments and another three-story building with six additional units, along with 3,000 square feet of community resource space. Communal amenities include a children’s playground, activity room, and business center.
New Trail Plaza will take shape across a six-acre parcel that, according to Google Earth’s renderings as of early 2024, was vacant prior to groundbreaking. The project is expected to be complete by late 2025, welcoming residents shortly after.
Funding for the $30 million endeavor comes from the City of Sarasota, the county’s American Rescue Plan Act program, First Housing, Florida Housing Finance Corp, and Truist. New Trail Plaza is currently unfolding at 4644 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL, 34234, in Sarasota County.
