ANF has completed construction of the new Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Research, Development, and Training Center (R.D.T.C.) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, serving as the construction manager for the project with Saltz Michelson Architects and RDG Planning & Design as the architects. The building is designed to meet Class “A” Office Building standards.

The BSO R.D.T.C. is a 104,000-square-foot design-build project for training law enforcement officers across Broward County. The main entrance features a memorial for the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland.

“We are pleased to have completed and delivered this state-of-the-art project to the Broward County community and are immensely proud of the outstanding achievement this building signifies,” said Al Fernandez, CEO of ANF. “We appreciate the vision, collaboration, and teamwork of our entire design-build team, Sheriff Tony, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office in bringing this exceptional complex to life.”

Led by ANF’s design-build team of architects and engineers, the BSO R.D.T.C. is a 4-story building with a 7-story parking garage with 653 parking spaces. Every aspect of the R.D.T.C. is specifically built to enhance the preparedness of first responders. The facility features specialized training rooms, simulation labs, and tactical firing ranges designed to replicate real-world scenarios and hone critical decision-making skills and tactical readiness.

“This milestone underscores our unwavering commitment to enhancing safety through innovation and education,” said Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony. “After 109 years, BSO’s state-of-the-art facility is now open, and our first responders are fully equipped to serve and protect the Broward County community.”

The BSO R.D.T.C. features several key components, including two 50-yard tactical firing ranges with bay doors for vehicle entry, enabling realistic vehicle takedowns and active shooter drills. It also has a two-story shoot house with flexible configurations for various unique scenarios, including Department of Detention inmate extractions, and a defensive tactics room for training in hands-on techniques to help de-escalate potential use of force incidents. Additionally, the facility includes EMS simulation labs to enhance the readiness and medical skills of firefighters/paramedics, a rappelling tower for SWAT and fire rescue personnel to prepare for structural fires or multi-story building rescues, a 22,000-square-foot strength and conditioning facility dedicated to maintaining employees’ mental and physical health, and three large configurable classrooms to support ongoing educational and professional development.
