On Monday, July 22nd, Miami-Dade County officials celebrated the groundbreaking of Brownsville Transit Village’s fifth phase. Currently, the affordable housing development offers 401 apartments, along with a 660-spot parking garage and 6,400 square feet of retail.

The fifth phase will add an additional 120 homes targeted at those earning 30 percent to 80 percent of the area median income (AMI). According to Miami-Dade County, that means a one-person household would have to earn $23,850 to $63,550 to qualify.

The South Florida Business Journal reports that the new 120 homes will include studio and one-bedroom homes, with communal amenities comprising a fitness center, laundry facilities, and a community room. There will also be ground-floor retail space. County records note that the general contractor intends to have finished construction by August 2025.

Brownsville Transit Village’s fifth phase will occupy 0.77 acres of a larger 5.2 acre-site. Atlantic Cos. and the Mount Sinai Community Development Corp. are developing the project. The venture’s expected to cost at least $50 million to complete, and it’s part of a larger effort to develop the area around the Brownsville Metrorail Station.

Brownsville Transit Village is located at 5255 N.W. 29th Ave., Miami, FL, 33142, in Miami-Dade County.
