A two-story padel and indoor pickleball court facility has been proposed to rise along Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. The city’s Development Review Committee is set to review plans for the 1.01-acre site at 4000 and 4008 North Federal Highway on July 23. Padel Broward LLC, managed by Arvinder Bajaj of AB Diversified of Plantation, Vicki Tofte and Vilic Novovic of Coral Springs, purchased the property for $5.5 million in 2023. The site is located near the Coral Ridge Country Club. Delray Beach-based HNM Architecture and Sarah Owen DelNegri of Flynn Engineering in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea are the architect and engineer for the project, respectively.

The proposed 80-foot-tall Padel Broward facility would encompass 59,404 square feet, featuring eight padel courts, six pickleball courts, a 1,098-square-foot pro shop, a 984-square-foot juice bar, and 65 parking spaces on the ground level.

The renderings of the facility depict the two-story structure with distinct design elements. The central section of the building has a light green decorative banding around large glass panels that display angular, intersecting lines, adding a dynamic visual texture. The facility’s name, “Padel Broward,” is prominently displayed at the top center of the structure. The sides and rear of the building are characterized by white sections adorned with evenly spaced black dots.

According to the developer’s traffic study, the project is expected to generate 489 daily vehicle trips.

Padel, created in Mexico in 1969, has seen significant growth in popularity, especially in Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. Recently, for-profit padel clubs have opened in Miami as interest in the sport increases. Unlike tennis and pickleball, fewer public padel facilities are available for free. While most padel courts in South Florida are concentrated in Miami-Dade County, the sport is gaining traction in Broward County. Notably, singer Daddy Yankee recently opened the 10 by 20 Padel Club on Powerline Road in Fort Lauderdale. Additionally, indoor padel courts are planned at the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise and just west of Interstate 95 in Hollywood.
