The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) has approved a series of projects to modernize and enhance passenger amenities at Orlando International Airport (MCO), including upgrades to Terminals A and B and the installation of advanced parking guidance technology in the airport’s parking garages.
The GOAA Board greenlit a $13 million project to implement an Automated Parking Guidance System across MCO’s parking facilities, including Garages A, B, and C, as well as the Terminal Top. Designed to streamline the parking experience, the system will feature real-time availability tracking, color-coded lights to indicate open spaces, and license plate recognition technology to assist visitors in locating vehicles. Transportation Systems Inc., based in Apopka, was awarded the installation contract, with work expected to commence by mid-2025 and conclude in 2027. The garages will remain operational during the phased installation process.
The system will cover approximately 11,000 spaces across four parking garages, part of the airport’s broader plan to meet future passenger growth. Additional surface parking lots and the future Consolidated Rental Car Facility (ConRAC), set to add 4,500 spaces by 2032, will further bolster MCO’s parking capacity.
The GOAA Board also approved plans for an extensive concession upgrade, introducing over 40 new restaurants and retail outlets. Highlights include renowned Central Florida establishments such as Stasio’s, Smoke & Donuts, Kelly’s Ice Cream, SoDough Detroit Pizza, Milkhouse, Jam-Eng, and 4Rivers. These additions will showcase the region’s culinary offerings while providing passengers with expanded dining and shopping options. Phase 1 of the renovation spans 77,013 square feet and will bring new experiences to visitors, including enhanced seating and local business representation. Renovations are expected to begin by mid-2025.
Future phases will include comprehensive interior updates to Airsides 1 and 3 and key areas of Terminals A and B. With more than $65 million allocated to these renovations, plans call for upgraded flooring, bathrooms, baggage claim, and gate areas.
Orlando International Airport, serving nearly 60 million passengers annually, continues to invest in infrastructure and amenities to accommodate growth and improve the traveler experience. Its ongoing improvements underscore its role as a key gateway for both domestic and international travel.
