Camping World Stadium Begins $400 Million Modernization at 1 Citrus Bowl Place Near Downtown Orlando

Construction is underway on a $400 million renovation of Camping World Stadium at 1 Citrus Bowl Place near Downtown Orlando, in the city’s West Lakes area adjacent to Parramore and Lake Lorna Doone Park. The project, funded entirely through Orange County’s Tourist Development Tax, represents the most extensive overhaul of the venue since its 2014 reconstruction and is scheduled for completion by summer 2027.

Originally opened in 1936 as the Orlando Citrus Bowl, the stadium currently seats approximately 62,000 to 63,000 spectators. The renovation will increase permanent capacity to approximately 65,000 seats. The scope includes a rebuilt upper bowl, reconstruction of the north end zone seating, new suites and premium hospitality areas, and the addition of an events center component within the stadium complex. Officials have described the project as the final phase of a long-term modernization effort that began with the 2008 venues package and the subsequent lower bowl reconstruction completed in 2014.

Additional upgrades include a complete redesign of the exterior façade, new concessions and restaurant areas, a terrace level addition, modernization of internal stadium systems and infrastructure, and improvements to concourses and restrooms. The project also incorporates structural and envelope enhancements intended to improve long-term durability and performance. Upon completion, the stadium will be positioned to accommodate NFL games, major college football matchups, large-scale concerts, and international events.

Construction activity is currently concentrated along the north end of the facility, where demolition and heavy equipment operations are underway. The project is expected to generate approximately 1,500 construction-related jobs over its duration, with roughly 400 workers on site during peak activity, according to city officials.

The renovation timeline aligns with preparations for the anticipated temporary relocation of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2027 NFL season while their home stadium in Jacksonville undergoes renovations. The relocation remains subject to approval by NFL owners. Stadium operators and city officials have indicated that the facility must be prepared to host a full professional season should the move be authorized.

Separately, the City of Orlando has advanced plans to expand the boundaries of its Community Redevelopment Agency district surrounding the stadium. The proposed 47-acre expansion would allow the CRA to invest in infrastructure improvements beyond the stadium footprint, including deteriorating roads, inadequate sidewalks, and other public realm enhancements. The expansion has been approved by the Orlando City Council and will require additional approvals from the Orange County Board of County Commissioners before returning to the City Council for final adoption.

The CRA expansion does not alter the funding structure of the stadium renovation itself, which remains financed through Tourist Development Tax revenues. Instead, it provides a mechanism to direct redevelopment resources toward surrounding publicly owned parcels, including portions of Tinker Field, adjacent parking areas, and parkland, in advance of anticipated increases in event activity at the stadium.
