Construction has broken ground on Phase I of Westminster Academy’s multi-phase campus expansion in Fort Lauderdale, marking the start of a $7.5 million initiative that will introduce new athletic facilities and infrastructure improvements to the private Christian school’s campus. KAST Construction is serving as general contractor for the project, which represents the first phase of a broader master plan that will guide future growth and development across the property.

Phase I will center on the construction of a new aquatic complex featuring a 25-meter competition pool, dive well, training pool, and athletic pavilion. Additional components include locker rooms, shaded spectator seating areas, and supporting infrastructure upgrades throughout the campus. Construction is expected to commence in the coming weeks, with completion anticipated in fall 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together school leadership, donors, students, families, and community stakeholders to commemorate the start of work. Attendees included former Florida State Representative George Moraitis, former Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Heather Moraitis, KAST Construction President and COO Sean Ouellette, KAST Construction Vice President and Principal Jim Rhinehart, Westminster Academy Headmaster Dr. Joel T. Satterly, School Board Chair George Barbar, and Capital Campaign Co-Chairs Chris and Sherry Clements.
“This is an exciting project because it’s something the school community will be able to use and benefit from right away,” said Jim Rhinehart, Vice President and Principal at KAST Construction. “It’s especially meaningful to be part of a project that supports the school’s long-term vision. Our team is focused on managing the work with care and coordination while maintaining the best possible environment for the school community throughout construction.”
The expansion follows Westminster Academy’s recent acquisition of an adjacent property, which will allow for future phases outlined in the school’s long-term master plan. Planned additions include expanded academic buildings, athletic facilities, and new early childhood education spaces designed to accommodate the institution’s continued growth.
Combined with the recent land acquisition and future development initiatives, the campus master plan represents a projected $20 million investment in Westminster Academy’s long-term future. School officials noted that community support has played a significant role in advancing the initiative, with more than $3 million raised in 45 days through contributions from alumni, parents, and stakeholders.
