451-Key Westin Hotel Approved for Miami International Airport (MIA)

A new hotel is headed for Miami International Airport (MIA). Yesterday, the Miami-Dade County Commission approved the construction of a 451-key Westin-brand hotel. The venture will rest on a 1.82-acre build site, offering a rooftop restaurant, spa, fitness center, event space, and more.

There’s also a unique building element: a climate-controlled pedestrian bridge connecting the hotel to Concourse D at MIA. The Miami Herald notes that over the course of the 50-year lease, the Westin’s expected to generate at least $250 million in revenue.

The venture will be located near MIA.

As part of the hotel’s approval, the owners will have to pay $2.58 million or 3.5 percent of the hotel’s gross revenue each year––whichever number is greater. The venture will help Miami International Airport Hotel in accommodating visitors with layovers, canceled flights, and other airline-related matters.

The latter venture was erected more than 60 years ago. The South Florida Business Journal reports that FDR Miami Hotel LLC, the Related Group of Florida, and Fountainebleau Development are spearheading the venture. Arquitectonica is the architect.

Online conceptual renderings show an avant-garde high-rise hotel that pays homage to Miami’s tropical atmosphere. At this time, our sources don’t list an exact address. But, we know that the venture’s located adjacent to MIA.
