The City of St. Petersburg has plans to develop part of the St. Petersburg/Gibbs Campus into affording housing––with 30 percent of those units intended for both students and staff.
Per St. Pete Rising, the complex would offer 105 townhomes of varying sizes. The housing development would take shape on a 5.24-acre parcel that the city has under contract to buy for $4.2 million. The parcel required rezoning to make the project possible. Previously, it was classified as Neighborhood Traditional-2. Now, it’s zoned as Residential Medium (RM).
The venture will occupy a 5.24-acre site.
A November 2023 City Council meeting revealed that residents making at or below 120 percent of the area median income could purchase the townhomes. At the time of publication, the median household income in the area was $64,375.
The City of St. Petersburg has owned the parcel since 1989, and currently, it’s home to a 20,732-square-foot building erected in the 1960s, along with a surface parking lot and a recreational field. Before the start of construction, the unnamed housing development would need approval by the Development Review Commission.
The 105-unit community could soon unfold at 7045 Burlington Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL, 33710, in Pinellas County. It’ll lie west of I-275 and north of Bear Creek.
