A shuttered Sears in Miami could be replaced with a multi-family housing development. The project, led by Sunny Isles Beach-based RK Associates, would offer 1,050 housing units, with layout plans ranging from studio to three-bedroom units.
Specifically, the Real Deal notes that the housing plans include 995 apartments and 55 rental townhomes. Of the 995 apartments, 420 would be set aside as affordable housing. The homes would be divided amongst three eight-story buildings. Communal amenities are slated to include four swimming pools, along other indoor offerings.
Aside from the residential aspect, the South Florida Business Journal reports that the development (which would span more than two million square feet) would offer just over 43,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and have 1,924 parking spots in two garages.
Miami’s Urban Development Review Board considered the proposal on June 20th and approved the developer’s plans. As noted, RK Associates is the developer. Our sources indicate that the firm has purchased a series of shopping centers in South Florida.
Behar Fonts & Partners is the architect. Recently, Florida YIMBY reported on a project in the Coral Gables-based firm’s pipeline: the Arcadian, another mixed-use venture.
RK Associates’ development is slated for 3655 SW 22nd Street, Miami, FL, 33145, in Miami-Dade County.
