Ability Housing is inching closer to construction on Village at Lake Forest, a venture Florida YIMBY reported on nearly three years ago. The Jacksonville Business Journal reports that the development would involve transforming the now-shuttered Lake Forest School of the Visual and Performing Arts into a 120-unit complex.

Village at Lake Forest would consist of five buildings, with communal amenities featuring a children’s playground, courtyard, and clubhouse. Locally based Ability Housing previously hoped to break ground on the project in June or July of this year, but now, the groundbreaking’s date is contingent on securing financing. The firm is hoping to secure a $15 million construction permit. PQH Group is the architect.

Still, Village at Lake Forest anticipates welcoming its first residents in the second quarter of 2025. Ability Housing is busy with many affordable housing projects taking shape in the Sunshine State. Florida YIMBY has recently reported on two. The first, Village at Cedar Hills, aims to offer 90 units divided amongst three three-story buildings. The other, Vincentian Village, will offer 73 one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes in a six-story building.

Village at Lake Forest is slated for the 9.8-acre site at 901 Kennard St., Jacksonville, FL, 32208, in Duval County.
