No community is complete without a grocery store, and what better way to set Westlake, FL, on the right track by adding a Publix? Westlake, an emerging community in West Palm Beach, is “new from the ground up,” according to its website.
Per the South Florida Business Journal, Publix Supermarkets, Inc. purchased the 20 acres site for $9.14 million. The organization has 247 active projects in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, costing close to $1 billion total. The Publix will be part of a larger plaza that intends on providing other goods and services to the new community.
Construction on the venture will begin sometime this year, first starting with Publix’s liquor store. The supermarket itself will measure about 50,000 square feet. The plaza itself will measure 200,000 square feet.
The Publix’s location is listed as being “west side of Seminole-Pratt Whitney Road between Town Center Parkway and Persimmon Boulevard” in West Palm Beach County. The city of Westlake comprises 3,800 acres and over 4,500 residential homes. It was founded in 2016.
Florida alone has over 815 Publix stores, and this number is expected to grow as other ventures reach completion. The employee-owned chain was founded in 1953 and is one of the largest supermarket chains in the southeast United States.
