Lil’ Abner II Offers Affordable Housing Options to Seniors Residing in Sweetwater, FL

Construction started on Lil’ Abner Apartments II in August 2021, according to the South Florida Business Journal. Construction on Lil’ Abner Apartments I ended in 2013. Now, the second phase is underway. It will offer affordable housing options to seniors living in Sweetwater, FL. The community is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2023.

Units are reserved for seniors making up to 60 percent of the area’s median income. Sweetwater’s median income is about $39,920 a year, per Data USA. The 5.1-acre build site will offer 244 units, offering 106 one-bedroom units and 138 two-bedroom units. They measure 588 square feet to 940 square feet each.

Previously, the build site hosted two buildings. One was a 17,000-square-foot daycare center that closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The other structure was a 5,164-square-foot office building. Both were demolished to prepare for construction.

CRE Holdings, LLC owns the venture and is also the general contractor. Burgos Lanza & Associates Inc. designed the eight-story building. The community will require more than 250,000 square feet of new construction. The project itself cost about $40 million to complete.
