After nearly 100 years in operation, Johnson & Wales is closing locations across the country, namely in Denver and Miami. The private university hopes to focus its attention on its central campus in Rhode Island. Yet, the now-defunct location in Miami may get a second life.
Property Markets Group, a developer based in Miami, purchased the campus for an undisclosed amount of money. Once the deal is finalized, the organization will own the premises’ 19 buildings and 25 acres. Per the South Florida Business Journal, the property itself runs over 425,000 square feet.
There is no word yet on what the new project will entail. However, Property Markets Group was drawn to the location because the buildings were still in good shape. So, speculation is that the developer will renovate or repurpose those buildings.
Johnson & Wales closed its Miami location in Summer 2021 and did not accept students for the upcoming school year. As time passes, we may gain insight into Property Markets Group’s intentions with the area.
When it decides on a venture, it will be located at 12900 Northeast 17th Avenue, Miami, FL, 33181. It will be located in Miami-Dade County, which is Florida’s third-largest county. We will monitor this project and provide details as they become available.
