For over 57 years, Broward County’s Nancy J. Cotterman Center has provided resources for survivors of sexual abuse. Now, after being planned for almost seven years, the project has finally started construction.
The new two-story center aims to provide counseling, medical attention, and resources to survivors of sexual abuse and their families. Comprising over 24,000 square feet of new construction, the facility aims to continue its mission and extend its reach in the area. Presently, the Center helps 50 people a day and provides a 24/7 hotline to those in need.
Per the Construction Journal, the new Nancy J. Cotterman Center will require $19.2 million to complete. Construction will conclude sometime within the next two years. The Broward County Purchasing Division owns the project. It’s also working on the Broward County Addiction Recovery Center Central, which is nearing completion.
According to Broward County’s website, the building will be LEED certified. The building will feature a cistern to collect rainwater, which will power the facility’s toilets. It will also have a 100-spot parking lot and fenced-in area for both guests and staff to unwind.
The new and improved Nancy J. Cotterman Center will be located at 2995 North Dixie Highway, Oakland Park, FL, 33334.
