Chicago-based architectural firm Perkins&Will has been selected as the winner of the City of Jacksonville Riverfront Plaza (FKA The Landing) Design Competition. The City’s Professional Services Evaluation Committee (PSEC) announced the winner on July 22nd during its Special PSEC meeting, deeming them as the highest scorer of the three competitors. The winner was up against Agency Landscape + Planning and OLIN, winning by a small margin.
The design for the park, dubbed One Park Jax, features an expansive central lawn, a destination play space, a terrace with views of the Southbank area across the river, a park pavilion building, a new hotel and sky garden, which includes outdoor restaurant venues, dedicated bike and pedestrian paths connecting to the Main Street bridge, and an iconic chrome-like sculpture spelling ‘Jax’ in a unique cursive type of writing perched atop a grand concrete staircase with the city’s skyline as the backdrop.

The park will begin construction in about a year as contract negotiations for the final design are expected to begin immediately. The property is located on the site of the former Jacksonville Landing at 2 Independent Drive.
