A Cheney Brothers distribution center is undergoing construction in Saint Lucie County, per the Construction Journal. The one-story $55 million facility comprises over 420,000 square feet of new construction, and it rests on 55.30 acres of land. It’s owned by Cheney Brothers, Inc., which has 16 distribution centers throughout Florida.
Construction on the venture began in the first quarter of 2022 and will ideally end in the second quarter of 2023. According to TC Palm, the venture will create over 350 jobs, offering more than 35 percent of Port Saint Lucie’s average income. Cheney Brothers distributes food in both North America and over 100 countries internationally.
The facility will provide food to hotels, bars, and restaurants in the area. According to Cheney Brothers’ CEO Byron Russell, if needed, the facility will provide emergency supplies when hurricanes and other natural disasters strike, the City of Port Saint Lucie reports.
GMA Architects designed the project, overseeing 13 active projects in Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and a handful of other states. Sansome Group is the project’s developer, HJA Design Studio is the land planner, and Simmons & White Inc. is the civil engineer.
The facility’s located at Southwest Becker Road, Port Saint Lucie, FL, 34953, in Saint Lucie County.
