Wrecker’s Cay Apartments To Offer 280 Affordable Housing Units in Key West, Florida

Upon completion, Wrecker’s Cay Apartments will be one of the biggest affordable housing complexes in Florida’s Lower Keys. The Key West Citizen notes that the community comprises eight three-story buildings, which will, in total, yield 280 residences. It requires more than 306,000 square feet of new construction.

The 9.3-acre site will host 70 low-income, 98 median-income, and 112 moderate-income units. Qualifying residents will make 80 to 120 percent of the area’s median income. Layout plans range from one-bedroom to three-bedroom models.

Community amenities include a playground, clubhouse, outdoor pavilion with a built-in kitchen, and resort-style swimming pool. Integra Investments, a Miami-based developer, purchased the build site in 2018. Previously, the build site was home to three mobile home parks.

Construction began on the venture in 2021 and will take 18 months to complete. Completion’s slated for mid- or late 2022. In total, the venture cost over $45 million to complete. Involved parties on the community include PQH Group, Inc., Perez Engineering & Development, Inc., and Charley Toppino and Sons, Inc.

Integra Investments purposefully chose the 9.3-acre build site because it’s close to public transportation amenities and convenience stores. Wrecker’s Cay Apartments’ address is 5700 Laurel Avenue, 6125 Second Street, and 6325 First Street, Key West, Florida, 33040, in Monroe County.
