Rollins College will soon be home to a new theater. It’s called the Tiedtke Theater & Dance Centre, named for Philip and Sigrid Tiedkte, who donated $5 million to make the venture possible. Construction started in November 2021, with OHL Building, Inc. operating as the general contractor. Construction’s anticipated to end in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Per Rollins College, the “heart” of the facility will be a 1,900-square-foot black box theater. The minimalist space provides seating for 142 guests, featuring retractable seats that accommodate various forms of theater, from arena performances to catwalk shows. The center also offers a 2,400-square-foot Costume Design and Technology Lab, fitting rooms, draft room, storage space, and costume shop.
The goal isn’t just to offer acting students a state-of-the-art facility to perform; it’s also for behind-the-scenes theater majors. The facility offers the latest technology when it comes to design, sound, and lighting systems. In total, the Tiedtke Theater & Dance Centre comprises more than 16,000 square feet of new construction.
Rollins College owns the project. Poulos & Bennett, LLC is the civil engineer, TLC Engineering Solutions is the MEP engineer, and Walter P Moore & Associates is the structural engineer. Baker Barrios Architects, Inc. is the architect.
Tiedtke Theater & Dance Centre’s address is 1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park, Florida, 32789, in Orange County.
